Overview

From espresso to pour-over coffee preparation, the EG-1 is Weber Workshops's 80mm premier flat burr grinder for specialty coffee, now upgraded to the Mk.3 edition.

The EG-1 Mk.3 ships with your option of two burr sets, both magnetically mounted. For everything from pour-over to espresso, we recommend the CORE burr set. For pour-over & filter only brewing, we highly recommend the ULTRA burr set for the highest clarity. If you purchase a second set of burrs at the same time as the grinder, you'll receive an automatic discount in the cart ($100 off on CORE, $150 off on ULTRA).

Flat Burr vs Conical

The EG-1 is premier flat burr disc grinder. There is an incredible amount of information on the web surrounding the question "which is better -- flat or conical?". In short, there is no concrete answer, as this comes down to personal preference. A couple of things that can be said about each are:

 

Conical Burrs

It is our belief that conical burrs are great for their all-around flexibility in making good coffee. Think of them like a tennis racket with an enormous sweet spot that always feels just about right, but never channels 100% of the swing's power. They will enable you to make amazing coffee with margin for error, but might not pull out every single note of a very complex coffee. They work great on all styles of coffee, from espresso to pour-over.

 

Flat (or disc) Burrs

These are for when you want to dial in with the precision of a scalpel to get every single origin note possible from your coffee. Our CORE burrs do this with precision and clarity, both for espresso and filter coffee. Our ULTRA burrs reduce fines to the point they are virtually unusable for traditional espresso, but outstanding as a dedicated option for filter coffee.
